Originally hailing from Siberia, this black tomato is highly popular and favored. It was first introduced from Irkutsk, Russia and is known as a "true Siberian tomato" that thrives in cooler climates. Until recently, it was considered a rare variety in the United States. However, its popularity has grown so much in Russia that a company in Volograd now produces an extract called "Black Prince Tomato Oil." The Black Prince tomato is believed to have significant health benefits in addition to containing lycopene. These round, 2-inch (2-3 oz.) tomatoes have a deep garnet color, are juicy, and boast incredibly rich fruity flavors. Chefs often rave about its exquisite taste. The small fruits have vibrant colors on the inside. They are perfect for patio gardens, eating fresh, and for cooking in tomato sauce or other culinary creations. They also make a great canning tomato.
